We left Myrtle Beach to go for a day of travel and visit and see the local culture.
To begin our trip we went to visit the famous Angel Oak Tree.
The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be in excess of 400-500 years old, stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 meters). From tip to tip Its longest branch distance is 187 ft.
It is an absolute must see for anyone visiting Charleston South Carolina. It is on everyone’s top ten list of things to do in Charleston. Despite being located on John’s Island, the Angel Oak has come to symbolize Charleston South Carolina. A large number of people search for “Angel Oak Charleston South Carolina” even thought this tree is on John’s Island. It is a southern live oak located in Angel Oak Park, on Johns Island SC.
This is the road to the famous Angel Oak. If we did not have our GPS, I would never have found it.
It is so old and heavy that poles are placed to hold up the branches
My words could not describe how really great this was as a tourist. We are pleased that we stopped to see it.
